SUNDAY 26 OCTOBER - PORT PHILLIP BAY - 3 am - 1pm with Weigh in & BBQ at Clubrooms at 1 pm

On Sunday members ventured onto Port Phillip Bay launching from either Patterson River or Mordialloc boat ramps.  I am told before the tide change,  conditions were great and during that time a few nice snapper were caught. A total of 11 snapper and 5 flathead were brought back to the scales for a total weight of 36.6Kg.
Peter Bouboulis caught the heaviest snapper - 4.74Kg.  His total bag weight for 3 good snapper was 12.83Kg.  Jack Jacobsen also caught 3 fish (heaviest 4.68Kg) and a total bag weight of 9.58Kg and Glenn Hansen weighed in 2 snapper (heaviest 4.20Kg) for a total weight of 5.35Kg.  All fish were caught around the Mordialloc area.

On Saturday 41 fish were brought back to the scales for a weight of 13.25Kg and on Sunday another 20 were brought back for a total weight of 4.65Kg.
Over the past few years the Goulburn has proven to be the better river for us, however this year the Acheron River provided good quality fish. Overall 42 Brown trout, 18 Rainbow and 1 Redfin were caught.  Good catches included  7 Brown, and 1 Redfin for 2.00Kg by Jack Jacobsen; Rob Joynson (5 Brown and 2 Rainbow - 2.24Kg) and Dave Jacobsen (3 Brown and 4 Rainbow - 2.23Kg).

6 members ventured to the Werribee River, 2 members to Patterson River and 2 members to the Maribynong River.  Weather conditions with the sun shining were kind to everyone who attended.
Unfortunately for everyone's effort we only had 3 fish brought back to the weigh in.  However this report shows 2 Bream - 1 @ 780 grams from Patterson River caught by Mark Watson and 1 @ 660 grams from Werribee River caught by Glenn Hansen.  Then to the scales came nothing less than a 95cm MULLOWAY also from the Werribee River caught by Dave Jacobsen - weighing in whole at 7.50Kg and with a 15% deduction for gilled and gutted weighed in at 6.67Kg.  When asked what bait was used Dave freely admitted it was a dead Fresh Water yabbie.

In a few weeks we hope to have a similar report for you from Bass Coast Beaches.

2 fish were brought back to the scales - 1 Bream and 1 Mullet. Paul Gallop caught the bream which weighed in at 640 grams. We can only hope that our next Estuary trip has a better report.

On this trip we saw one of our members who during the morning found he had 'no spark' left in his motor. Last Sunday we held our last trip for our syllabus year. 9 members took to Lilydale Lake extremely hopeful of catching nice sized rainbow trout for dinner. The weather was cool, but very acceptable for fishing. Unfortunately there were no trout to be found, although a couple of members did hook an eel. At approximately 11.45 am along the path came Rod Mulholland, Terry Quirk and Norm Bull with all gear packed up. Back to the BBQ the other 6 members followed. Sausages and onions on the BBQ and our weigh master Dave Jacobsen thought he was not having to get the scales set up. A voice from the BBQ area however commented 'get the scales ready Dave!' Yes you guessed it ROD MULHOLLAND caught the only fish for the day - a whopping 240 gram Red Fin. Congratulations Rod for catching the fish and winning the last trip for the season.
SATURDAY 4 & SUNDAY 5 JUNE 2016 - WOODSIDE (SURF) 6 am Saturday - 12 noon Sunday (4th leg SSF & also Cyril Mitchell Memorial Trophy)
Our 2nd last trip for our 2015/2016 angling season was held at the weekend. 8 anglers went to Woodside for the weekend. An enjoyable social time was had by all. Unfortunately as we have all experienced, the weather was definitely not on our side this year. With easterly winds, plenty of side drift and an enormous amount of rain it was extremely hard to catch fish. Saturday 5 anglers fished Woodside Beach and 3 went to Reeves Beach. Norm Bull (Woodside Beach) caught a salmon of 2.17Kg and Ron Mason (Reeves Beach) caught a salmon of 280 grams. Late Saturday afternoon and early evening 5 ventured back to Woodside Beach but unfortunately nothing to report back.Sunday morning 5 went to Reeves Beach - with no luck again. Norm and his mate went to Woodside Beach and once again Norm was the only one to catch another salmon - this time 1.27Kg.The overall bag for the weekend was 3 salmon for a total weight of 3.72Kg. Rain, and more rain followed us 3/4s of the way home.

Graham 'Boss' Simester  caught the heaviest bag of 8 bream for total weight of 2.78kg.

Dave 'Jaycko' Jacobsen weighed in 3 bream for 2.05 kg with the heaviest being 750 grams. Many of the local anglers were saying how hard it has been over the past couple of weeks to find the bigger fish however a great fishing and social weekend was had by our members.

SUNDAY 1 MAY - EILDON PONDAGE (Estuary) - 6 am - 1 pm with weigh in at Rotunda
Last Sunday (1 May) 10 members took to the roads and drove to Eildon to fish the Pondage on Sunday. Great day Saturday, although the weather forecast was not looking real good for the remainder of the weekend. Overnight there was plenty of thunder and lightning as well as good rains that came over the area. 4 am many of us did not even think for one minute we would get anywhere near the pondage due to the weather conditions. However 6 am start and most were securing their spot the hopefully catch a nice trout or 2 to take home. Unfortunately not long and the winds came up and not a fish in sight. The committee then decided due to the overall weather conditions to have an early weigh in. Everyone turned up at the rotunda for 11 am BBQ and weigh in. There were more white cockies looking for a feed than fish seen or brought in. Glenn Hansen caught 2 brown trout - one at 530 grams and the other at 180 grams.

With the first of our freshwater trips allocated for this weeked we headed up to Thornton for trout opening. With many of us heading up Friday to check out the conditions we were greeted by the Goulburn running very hard and conditions we knew would be challenging for the weekend.   In total 15 seniors, 7 ladies and 4 juniors attended across the weekend.

Saturday saw us all head to wherever we could find some promising spots with the majority fishing the Goulburn and a few fishing the Acheron or Rubicon rivers. Conditions were very hard with the fast running water making things difficult but for those that managed to find some slower water some good results were had.

Cameron Webber did well landing a Rainbow Trout of 760 gr (gilled and gutted) and Norm Bull managed his bag of 5 fish.

Sunday saw some slightly better conditions as the water flow started to slow a little and the river level drop slightly.

Once again best results were obtained by those who could find some shelter from the flow. Dave Jacobsen, fishing the Acheron managed a very nice Brown trout of 960gr and Cameron Webber found a productive spot in the Goulburn bagging out in just over an hour on Sunday morning and one of our juniors, Trent Cann, managed a good bag of 5 on Sunday beating a number of our seniors, Well done Trent. Among the ladies, Renee Webber did well on the Sunday weighing in 3 fish.

Midday saw all meet up at the Thornton Beach Reserve for the final weigh before heading back from an enjoyable weekend.
